Cavaer, Hansen are KLM Open co-leaders

ZANDVOORT, Netherlands, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Christian Cevaer of France and Denmark's Anders Hansen are tied for the lead after one round of the European Tour's KLM Open at Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Both shot 6-under-par 65 in strong windy conditions Thursday, which hampered a number of players in the 156-man field, including defending champion Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano of Spain, who opened with a 4-over 75, good for 126th place.

"I woke up with the stiff neck (Wednesday) and missed the pro-am," Hansen said. He is using this tournament as a warm-up for next week's United States PGA Championship. "The long irons carry better. I know I'm going to have to hit the ball higher."

Austria's Markus Brier is alone in third place at 5-under 66. Three players tied for fourth place at 4-under 67, and 13 others tied for seventh at 3-under 68.
