STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Russian Anastasia Myskina, the 2005 runnerup, beat 2004 champion Alicia Molik in first-round action at the Nordea Nordic Light Open.
The top-seeded Myskina, the 2004 French Open champ, defeated the Australian Molik 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in Tuesday play. Myskina lost to Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik in last year's Stockholm finale.
Fourth-seeded Swede Sofia Arvidsson won in an all-Scandinavian match against Finn Emma Laine, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
In other seeded play, No. 3 Jie Zheng defeated fellow Chinese Zi Yan 7-5, 6-0, while Slovakian Jarmila Gajdosova beat No. 6 Belarusian Anastasiya Yakimova 6-2, 6-3.
