MLB: Kansas City 6, Boston 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Kansas City downed Boston 6-4 Tuesday in the first of a three-game series at Kaufman Stadium.

The Royals' Emil Brown hit 2-for-4 with a home run and drove in three runs.

Mike Sweeney, who was activated from the 60-day disabled list prior to the game, went 1-for-3 and scored once as the Royals ended a four-game losing streak.

Kansas City starter Luke Hudson gave up three runs on eight hits in six innings for his fifth straight win, while Ambiorix Burgos got his 17th save of the season.

Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 and extended his career-best hitting streak to 23 games for Boston, which has dropped three in a row. David Ortiz belted his major league-leading 41st homer of the season for the Red Sox.

Boston remains two games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East.
