MLB: Arizona 4, Houston 3

PHOENIX, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Claudio Vargas gave up two runs and six hits in six innings Sunday afternoon as Arizona edged the Houston Astros, 4-3.

Eric Bynes hit a solo home run; Damion Easley and Carlos Quentin hit RBI singles; and Stephen Drew had a run and two hits for the Diamondbacks (56-55), who have split their last six games.

Vargas (9-8) issued two walks and struck out six batters. Jorge Julio earned his 14th save after striking out the side in the top of the ninth.

Lance Berkman had two hits, including a two-run homer; Willy Taveras had a run and three hits; Aubrey Huff hit an RBI single; while Luke Scott had two hits for the Astros (53-58), who have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher Andy Pettitte (10-12) gave up four runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
