Landis denies doping

NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Fired by his cycling team and threatened with the loss of his Tour de France title, Floyd Landis said Monday that he took no banned substances.

Landis, in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America," questioned the validity of the tests that showed the presence of synthetic testosterone and suggested that there might be a conspiracy to prevent another U.S. cyclist from winning the tour.

If Landis is stripped of the title, he would be the first winner in the race's history to do so because of the use of banned substances. Oscar Pereiro of Spain, who finished in second place, would become this year's champion.

Test results showed an unusually high ratio of testosterone to another body chemical on the day Landis made a historic comeback after falling far behind in the race.
