INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Jimmie Johnson won Sunday's Brickyard 400 Nextel Cup auto race at Indianapolis.
His No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet took the checkered flag ahead of Matt Kenseth as the race ended under a caution flag.
The victory gave Johnson four this season and 22 in his Nextel Cup career. He also won the Daytona 500 in February, making him just the second driver ever to win at both Indianapolis and Daytona in the same year.
That feat also was accomplished by Dale Jarrett in 1996.
"I'm speechless right now," Johnson said. "We fell way back and drove all the way to the front. I never thought I would win at this race track."
In the points chase, Johnson has a 107-point edge over Kenseth.
Edwards and Bowyer are out of the running.
