Clijsters, Sharapova in Acura final

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Top seeded Belgian Kim Clijsters and No. 2 Maria Sharapova of Russia won their semifinal matches Saturday at the Acura Classic in San Diego.

Clijsters was taken to a tiebreak in the second set against seventh-seeded Czech Nicole Vaidisova, but cruised from there for a 6-2, 7-6 (7-0), victory -- her 24th straight hardcourt win.

Sharapova eliminated No. 5 Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

The winner in Sunday's final will earn $196,900.
