ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- An RBI single by B.J. Upton in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night helped Tampa Bay edge the Detroit Tigers, 2-1.
Josh Paul and Johnny Gomes both had one run and one hit for the Devil Rays (45-64), who had only six hits in the contest.

It was Tampa Bay's third win in its last 10 games.
Winner Seth McClung (3-10) picked up his first victory since May with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Brian Meadows earned his sixth save.
Craig Monroe hit a solo home run, and Dmitri Young had three hits for the Tigers (72-36), who have dropped three of their last five games.
Losing pitcher Nate Robertson (10-7) was charged with two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
