MLB: Pittsburgh 3, Atlanta 2

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Joe Randa had two hits and two RBI Thursday afternoon to help Pittsburgh edge the Atlanta Braves, 3-2.

Jason Bay hit a run-scoring single, while Chris Duffy and Freddy Sanchez each had a run and a hit for the Pirates (41-68), who averted a three-game sweep.

In five innings, winner Shawn Chacon (1-0), recently acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees, yielded one run and three hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Mike Gonzalez recorded his 19th save.

Andruw Jones hit a pair of two-run doubles, and both Marcus Giles and Edgar Renteria had a run and a hit for the Braves (50-57).

Losing pitcher Tim Hudson (8-10) gave up three runs and six hits in six innings with three walks and six strikeouts.
