Sharapova, Hingis advance at Acura Classic

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Maria Sharapova and Martina Hingis won their second-round matches Tuesday at the Acura Classic women's tennis tournament in San Diego.

Sharapova downed Vasilisa Bardina, 6-4, 6-1. Hingis defeated Meilen Tu, 6-2, 6-3

In the other second-round match, Nicole Vaidosova was leading Virginia Ruano Pascual, 6-1, 1-0 late Tuesday.

Total prize money in the tournament -- $1.34 million.
