SAN FRANSCISCO, Calif., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Moises Alou had four hits and four RBI Wednesday afternoon as San Francisco held on to top Washington, 8-6, snapping a nine-game losing streak.

One of Alou's hits was his 12th home run of the year, a solo blast in the seventh inning.

Shea Hillenbrand also hit a solo home run in that inning.

Ray Durham hit an RBI single, and Omar Vizquel hit an RBI double for the Giants (52-56), who had lost their last six games against Washington.

Winner Jason Schmidt (8-7) surrendered one run and four hits in six innings with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Relievers Brad Hennessey and Steve Kline gave up five runs in two innings, but Mike Stanton -- recently acquired from the Nationals -- recorded his first save.

Alfonso Soriano hit two homers and Nick Johnson added a two-run shot for the Nationals (48-60), who have split their last four games.

The loser was Tony Armas (7-7).
