DENVER, July 30 (UPI) -- Jason Jennings pitched seven innings as the Colorado Rockies beat the Padres, 3-1, Sunday afternoon.
Jennings (7-9) won for the first time since June 20. He yielded one run on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
Matt Holliday homered, and Todd Helton had three hits and one RBI for the Rockies, who have won five of their last eight -- and beat San Diego three out of four over the weekend to move within 4 1/2 games of the NL Western Division-leading Padres.
Padres starter Mike Thompson (3-3) gave up three runs on six hits over six innings, with a strikeout and three walks. Thompson was starting in place of Chan Ho Park, who was put on the 15-day disabled list before the game because of abdominal pain.
