BOSTON, July 29 (UPI) -- David Ortiz hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning Saturday afternoon, helping Boston beat the Los Angeles Angels, 7-6.
Ortiz finished with one run, four hits, including a solo home run, and four RBI; Mike Lowell hit a two-run double; Manny Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly and a single, to extend his hitting streak to 14 games; Alex Gonzalez had two runs and two hits; and Trot Nixon had one run and two hits for the Red Sox (62-40), who have won five of their last six games.
The winner was Julian Tavarez (2-3).
Curtis Pride hit a two-run homer; Orlando Cabrera drove in two runs; Howie Kendrick had two hits; and Chone Figgins scored three times for the Angels (53-50), who lost for the second time in their last seven games.
The losing pitcher was Hector Carrasco (2-3).
