PALERMO, Italy, July 23 (UPI) -- Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain Sunday won the Palermo (Italy) International Tennis Tournament for the fourth time in her career.
She beat Tathiana Garbin of Italy in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to earn the winner's check of $22,900.
After winning the first set, Medina Garrigues, the second seed, trailed 3-4. But she took the final three games to claim her third straight title at Palermo.
Her lifetime record against the runner-up rose to 4-1.
Garbin, who was trying to become the first Italian to win the event and the first wild card in 2006 to win a Tour singles title, earned $12,345 as the runner-up.
