MLB: Minnesota 3, Cleveland 1

CLEVELAND, July 23 (UPI) -- Francisco Liriano and four other pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts Sunday afternoon as the Minnesota Twins beat Cleveland, 3-1.

Justin Morneau hit a two-run single, Michael Cuddyer had an RBI single, and Joe Mauer and Nick Punto each had a run and two hits for the Twins (56-41), who have won nine of their last 10 games.

In five innings, Liriano (12-2) surrendered just one run and four hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Relievers Pat Neshek, Danys Reyes, Juan Rincon and Joe Nathan had the other seven strikeouts. Nathan earned his 19th save.

Jason Michaels hit an RBI single for the Indians (43-54), who were held to six hits.

Cleveland has split its last four games.

Losing pitcher Jake Westbrook (7-6) gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
