MLB: Boston 9, Seattle 4

SEATTLE, July 22 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox hit five home runs Friday night and hammered Seattle, 9-4, for their fifth straight win.

Kevin Youkilis, Manny Ramirez and Alex Gonzalez all hit two-run homers; David Ortiz and Jason Varitek hit solo shots; both Youkilis and Ramirez had two hits; and Coco Crisp hit an RBI single for the Red Sox (59-36), who increased their lead in the American League East to 3 1/2 games over the New York Yankees.

Winner Kyle Snyder (2-1) gave up two runs and five hits in five innings with two walks and two strikeouts.

Yuniesky Betancourt had two runs and four hits; while Ichiro Suzuki, Willie Blomquist, and Adam Jones all had an RBI for the Mariners (45-51), who have lost five of their last six games.

Losing pitcher Jamie Moyer (5-9) was tagged for eight runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
