Ex-Patriot Ted Johnson, wife arrested

WESTON, Mass., July 22 (UPI) -- Former New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson and his wife have each been charged with assault after a domestic dispute in Weston, Mass.

The couple was charged at their home after Jacqueline Johnson, 40, told police the couple had been arguing and her husband, 33, turned violent and she retaliated, the Boston Globe reported Saturday.

Johnson, a three-time Super Bowl champion, told police he and his wife were arguing Sunday over a medication prescribed to him that she wanted to take, the Globe said.

The Johnsons arraigned together Tuesday morning and their next hearing was scheduled for Sept. 7.

Doug Bailey, a public relations consultant for the family, said the incident has been sensationalized.

"Neither one is pressing charges against one another," Bailey said. "They've signed affidavits agreeing not to testify against one another."
