MLB: San Francisco 9, San Diego 3

SAN FRANSCISCO, Calif., July 21 (UPI) -- Barry Bonds hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning as the San Francisco Giants routed the Padres, 9-3, Thursday night.

Bonds, Ray Durham and Pedro Feliz hit consecutive homers off San Diego reliever Brian Sweeney, and Chad Santos hit his first major league homer -- a two-run stroke off Padres' starter and loser Chan Ho Park (6-6).

Bonds' homer -- his 14th of 2006, and the 722nd of his career -- came on the same day as federal prosecutors in San Francisco said they will continue investigating whether Bonds committed perjury during his testimony before a grand jury looking into the BALCO steroids scandal.

"An investigation happened and hopefully it is over," Bonds said on his Web site Thursday. "I do want to make it clear that there are no hard feelings for the legal process, but I feel there comes a point where everyone needs to move on."

Bonds needs 33 more home runs to tie Hank Aaron for the major league record, 755.

Giants' starter Noah Lowry (5-6) gave up three runs on eight hits over 8 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts and three walks.
