Spanish cyclist Oscar Pereiro finished in 25th place -- 8 minutes behind Tosatto -- but retained the yellow jersey of the tour's overall leader with two stages of the 2006 race to be ridden.

Carlos Sastre of Spain was second overall, 12 seconds behind Pereiro, followed by American Floyd Landis, 30 seconds off the pace. Landis could make up the deficit in Saturday's 33.6-mile time trial.

The Tour de France wraps up on Sunday with a 91-mile ride ending along Paris' Champs Elysees.
