HOYLAKE, England, July 20 (UPI) -- With a course-record 6-under 66, Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland is the leader after one round of the British Open Golf Tournament in Hoylake, England.
McDowell leads Japan's Keiichiro Fukabori, Anthony Wall and Greg Owen of England, Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and defending champion Tiger Woods by one shot. Woods made an eagle on the final hole of the day.
"That was pretty cool," said McDowell.
"I'm in good shape, but we've got a long way to go," said Woods, who missed his first cut in a major as a professional last month at the U.S. Open, and opened with a three-putt bogey on Thursday. "The course is only going to get faster."
Reigning Masters and PGA champion Phil Mickelson is tied for 20th place at 3-under 69.
