ENDICOTT, N.Y., July 20 (UPI) -- Mark Brooks has a one-shot lead after the first round of the PGA's B.C. Open Golf Tournament at Endicott, N.Y.
On Thursday, Brooks, a seven-time winner on the tour, shot an opening 7-under 65. He had eight birdies and only one bogey.
It is the first time since 1996 that Brooks has been the leader after the first 18 holes of a tournament.
"Scoring-wise, it was a very good round, obviously," Brooks said. "I have had a lot of good iron-hitting rounds this year, but not many good driving rounds."
Defending champion Jason Bohn and Harrison Frazar are tied for second place at 6-under 66.
Omar Uresti, Matt Gogel, Daisuke Maruyama, Scott Gutschewski, Gabriel Hjertstedt, Scott Gump, Ryuji Imada, John Rollins, B.J. Staten and Jason Schultz are tied for fourth place at 5-under 67.
On a day of low scores, the highest score was 13-over 85 by Sean Dadey.
