Mark Loretta had two hits for the Red Sox (57-36), who have four wins in their last five games overall after their second straight 1-0 victory.
Winner Josh Beckett (12-5) scattered four hits over eight scoreless innings with no walks and seven strikeouts.
Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 29th save.
Four players each had a hit for the Royals (32-62), who have dropped six of their last seven games overall.
Losing pitcher Mark Redman (6-5) surrendered a run and seven hits in eight innings with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Beckett's 12 wins tied him with Toronto's Roy Halladay for most in the majors to date.
