MLB: Pittsburgh 3, Colorado 1

PITTSBURGH, July 17 (UPI) -- Freddy Sanchez doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Monday as the Pittsburgh Pirates posted a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

Sanchez, who leads the National League with a .363 average, was 2-for-3. Jack Wilson scored a run for the Pirates, who have won three of their last four games.

Kip Wells gave up just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings. John Grabow (2-1) got the win and Matt Capps his first career save after the pair pitched a scoreless final two innings.

Clint Barmes homered for the Rockies, who have lost eight straight games. Garrett Atkins finished 3-for-4.

Byung-Hyun Kim (5-6) gave up three runs on seven hits and matched a career-high nine strikeouts in a career-high 7 1/3 innings.
