NEW YORK, July 17 (UPI) -- Miguel Cairo's two-run single highlighted a three-run second inning Monday as the New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners, 4-2.
Chien-Ming Wang (10-4) got the win, giving up two runs on seven hits and a pair of walks. Jason Giambi homered and Johnny Damon went 3-for-4 with a run driven in for the Yankees, who have won eight of their last nine games.

Raul Ibanez had an RBI and scored a run and Kenji Johjima had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Mariners, who have lost nine of their last 11 games.
Jarrod Washburn (4-10), who is winless in his last six starts, was saddled with the loss, yielding four runs -- one earned -- on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings.
