Sam Cassell re-signs with Clippers

LOS ANGELES, July 12 (UPI) -- Guard Sam Cassell, who helped the Los Angeles Clippers come within one game of the NBA Western Conference Finals, signed a two-year contract with the team.

A veteran of 880 career games with Houston, Phoenix, Dallas, New Jersey, Milwaukee and Minnesota, Cassell averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 assists in 78 regular season games with the Clippers last season.

He averaged 18 points, four rebounds and 5.8 assists in 12 playoff games as the Clippers had their best season in 31 years.

Cassell was a member of the Houston Rockets championship squads in 1994 and 1995.

"Sam was an integral part of our success last season," said Elgin Baylor, Clippers vice president of basketball operations.
