MLB: N.Y. Yankees 5, Tampa Bay 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 8 (UPI) -- A two-run triple by Johnny Damon Saturday night helped the New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay, 5-1, for their fourth straight win.

Melky Cabrera, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada all hit RBI singles; Cabrera had three hits; and Kevin Thompson had two hits for the Yankees (50-35).

Winner Chien-Ming Wang (9-4) limited Tampa Bay to a run and six hits in 8 1/3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts.

Johnny Gomes hit a sacrifice fly to break up Wang's shutout bid in the bottom of the ninth, and Aubrey Huff had a run and two hits for the Devil Rays (38-50), who dropped their third straight game.

In 6 1/3 innings, loser Scott Kazmir (10-6) surrendered three runs and seven hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.

The win gave Yankees Manager Joe Torre 1,926 for his career, tying him with Casey Stengel for 10th place on the all-time list.
