DENVER, July 8 (UPI) -- A six-run ninth-inning rally fell short Saturday night and Colorado lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-7.
Arizona scored seven runs of its own in the top of the inning.
Chad Tracy hit a grand slam homer; Craig Counsell hit a solo shot; both Edd Byrnes and Shawn Green had one run, two hits, and one RBI; and Conor Jackson had a run and three hits for the Diamondbacks (42-45), who have split their last four games.
Winner Luis Vizcaino improved to 3-3 and Jorge Julio recorded his ninth save.
Yorvit Torrealba hit a three-run double; Brad Hawpe hit a run-scoring single; while Garrett Atkins had two runs and one hit for the Rockies (44-42), who have lost two in a row and split their last six games.
The losing pitcher was closer Brian Fuentes (2-2), who gave up six runs and six hits in the top of the ninth.
