MLB: Atlanta 14, St. Louis 4

ATLANTA, July 5 (UPI) -- Chipper Jones hit an RBI single and a two-run double Wednesday night as Atlanta trounced St. Louis, 14-4.

Scott Thorman hit a solo homer; Edgar Renteria hit a run-scoring triple; Brian McCann hit a two-run double; Adam La Roche had one run, three hits and one RBI; and Marcus Giles scored three runs for the Braves (37-48), who have won three times in their last four games.

Winner Chuck James (3-0) yielded four runs on eight hits over six innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

Hector Luna hit a two-run homer, Scott Rolen hit a solo shot, and Jim Edmonds hit a sacrifice fly for the Cardinals (45-38), who have split their last four games.

Starter and loser Jeff Suppan (6-5) was pounded for 10 runs and nine hits in only 3 1/3 innings.

After the contest, St. Louis announced that it had acquired right-hander Jeff Weaver from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league outfielder Terry Evans.
