BOSTON, July 5 (UPI) -- The Boston Celtics have signed No. 1 draft pick Rajon Rondo, a guard out of the University of Kentucky.
No terms were disclosed.
The 6-foot-1 inch Rondo, who reportedly had poor pre-draft workouts with a number of teams, averaged 11.2 points, a team-high 6.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game as a sophomore for the Wildcats last season and was named to the Southeast Conference Second Team.
"Rajon is a terrific athlete who we feel has a chance to be a very special player," Boston's director of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, told the Boston Herald. "He has the ability to make an impact on both ends of the court and his speed and quickness will be a big asset to our team.
"There's always going to be critics, everybody has something to say," Rondo said on the team's Web site. "Everybody has a weakness, but my intangibles can cover it."
