Streaker interrupts Wimbledon match

WIMBLEDON, England, July 4 (UPI) -- A man wearing only athletic shoes and black socks interrupted Tuesday's Wimbledon quarterfinal between Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva.

The streaker did a cartwheel on Sharapova's side of the court, The Daily Mail reported. It may have brought her luck since she advanced to the semi-finals.

The interruption was a brief one with officials carrying a red blanket wrapping up the streaker and carrying him off as the audience cheered. He has been identified as Sander Lantinga, 29, from Berkhout in the Netherlands.

A friend says that Lantinga was wearing an outfit held together with Velcro, allowing him to disrobe quickly. Lantinga, a radio disc jockey in the Netherlands, reportedly carried out the stunt for a Dutch TV program called "Try Before You Die."

Police said Lantinga was arrested.
