Carlos Ruiz hit a two-run home run, the first of his career. Ruiz was recalled before the game to replace Sal Fasano, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to the game with left knee inflammation.

Tom Gordon (3-3) picked up the win, giving up just two hits in 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
