Edson Buddle had a goal and an assist for the Red Bulls, who suffered their first loss under interim Coach Richie Williams. Williams was coaching his second match since taking over for Mo Johnston last week.

Dempsey opened up the scoring in the sixth minute when the Red Bulls failed to clear the ball and it deflected in off Dempsey's foot.

In the 24th minute, Buddle tied it for New York.

Twellman gave the home team a 2-1 lead at the intermission with his sixth goal of 2006 in the final seconds of the first half.

Dempsey broke a 2-2 draw in the 72nd minute by beating a pair of defenders in the box.
