LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo Thursday led seeded women's winners in the second round of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London.
The No. 1 player in women's tennis beat Australia's Samantha Stosur 6-4, 6-2.
In other matches, No. 4 Maria Sharapova topped unseeded Ashley Harkleroad, 6-2, 6-2; No. 6 Venus Williams, the defending champion, beat fellow American Lisa Raymond, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-2; and Severine Bremond of France beat eighth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Also winning were No. 7 Elena Dementieva; ninth-seeded Anastasia Myskina; No. 14 Dinara Safina; 15th-seeded Daniela Hantuchova and No. 16 Flavia Pennetta.
Among non-seed winners were Shenay Perry, Sybille Bammer, Tamarine Tanasugarn and Agnieszka Radwanska.
