John Harris wins at East Meadow

EAST MEADOW, N.Y., June 25 (UPI) -- John Harris beat Tom Jenkins in a playoff Sunday to win the Commerce Bank Championship in East Meadow, N.Y.

Harris, the 1993 U.S. Amateur champion, finished at 11-under 202 to win his first professional victory on the Champions Tour.

Sunday was a long day, punctuated by a heavy and lengthy rain on Sunday morning. A closing 7-under 64 got Harris into the playoff.

"I'm pretty overwhelmed," said Harris, who joined the Champions Tour in 2002. "I'm really proud of the way I played. It's been a long four years."

The crown was worth a winner's check of $225,000.

Jenkins, who earned $132,000, was 7-under 64 and was in the clubhouse when Harris forced the playoff.

Jay Haas (69), Andy Bean (67) and Gil Morgan (69) tied for third place at 10-under 203.

Dana Quigley (65) was sixth at 9-under 204.
