EAST MEADOW, N.Y., June 23 (UPI) -- After 18 holes of the Commerce Bank Championship in East Meadow, N.Y., Allen Doyle has a one-shot lead over Gil Morgan.
Doyle is 7-under 64 and Morgan is 6-under 65.
Jim Ahern, Tom Wargo, Don Pooley and Jack Ferenz are tied for third place at 4-under 67.
"It's a walk in the park after Winged Foot," said Doyle, who missed the cut at the U.S. Open Golf Tournament last week at the difficult Winged Foot course in Mamaroneck, N.Y. "I don't beat myself up now when I miss a fairway."
Jay Haas, in search of his fourth straight Champions Tour victory, opened with a 2-under 69, and is tied for 14th place with nine other players, including defending champion Ron Streck.
Haas tied for 37th place at the U.S. Open.
