Minnesota guard McCants undergoes surgery

MINNEAPOLIS, June 19 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Monday that guard Rashad McCants underwent successful microfracture surgery on his right knee.

McCants is expected to make a full recovery with his expected rehabilitation time 4-to-6 months.

McCants, out of the University of North Carolina, was selected by Minnesota with the 14th overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. In 79 games (12 starts) he averaged 7.9 points and shot 37.2 percent from three-point territory, setting a Timberwolves franchise-rookie record.

"It's an unfortunate situation because Rashad has been working really hard this off-season, and was looking forward to playing in the upcoming summer league games," said Kevin McHale, Minnesota vice president of basketball operations. "We expect Rashad to recover fully from the injury. We are going to make sure he is 100 percent healthy before he comes back."
