WASHINGTON, June 18 (UPI) -- Ryan Zimmerman belted a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon as Washington beat the New York Yankees, 3-2.
The rookie third baseman also scored Washington's first run in the fifth inning, when he stole second base and scored on a single by shortstop Brendan Harris.
The Nationals rallied from a 9-2 deficit on Saturday to win, 11-9, breaking a five-game losing streak.
Washington got only six hits against New York starter and loser Chien-Ming Wang (7-3), who was two outs away from hurling a complete game. The winner was Gary Majewski (3-2).
Nationals' starter Mike O'Connor yielded only one run and four hits in seven innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada each drove in a run and Derek Jeter had two hits for the Yankees (38-29), who have three losses in their last four games.
