MLB: Minnesota 5, Boston 3

MINNEAPOLIS, June 15 (UPI) -- Carlos Silva carried a shutout into the seventh inning as the Minnesota Twins beat Boston Thursday, 5-3, completing a three-game sweep.

Silva (3-8) had lost his last two starts, but he checked the Red Sox on seven hits and two strikeouts to get his first win since May 9.

Joe Nathan got his eighth save.

Jason Kubel homered for a third straight game and Luis Castillo had three hits with one RBI and one run scored for the Twins, who won their fourth straight.

Tim Wakefield (4-8) took the loss for the Red Sox, giving up four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

Alex Cora had three hits and scored two runs for Boston, which has lost four straight. Mike Lowell had three hits and one RBI.
