Titans' Brad Hopkins retires

NASHVILLE, June 14 (UPI) -- Offensive tackle Brad Hopkins of the Tennessee Titans retired Wednesday after 13 years in the National Football League.

The 6-foot-3 inch, 295-pound Hopkins was a two-time Pro Bowl selection after being a first-round draft pick out of Illinois in 1993, when the Titans were the Houston Oilers.

"Brad is probably the most athletic offensive lineman I've ever seen," said former teammate Bruce Matthews. "He loved to play against the big names, whether it was Bruce Smith, Jason Taylor, Mike McCrary, he would crank his game up a notch for those games. He certainly didn't receive the credit he deserved."

Coach Jeff Fisher praised Hopkins for leaving on his own terms.

"If you can control your own destiny, that you can wake up, look yourself in the mirror and say I have had enough, I have had a great career; I am going to walk away on my own terms," Fisher said.

Hopkins, who was released in March, started 188 of 194 games.
