Hard-luck teams paired in World Cup

MUNICH, Germany, June 13 (UPI) -- Saudi Arabia and Tunisia, two teams that haven't had much luck in World Cup play, seem a good first-game pairing for the 2006 tournament.

Saudi Arabia and Tunisia face off in their first Group H game Wednesday in Munich while Spain and Ukraine, the other teams in the group, open their play in Leipzig.

Tunisia is appearing in its fourth World Cup tournament but has never made it out of the first round. In fact, Tunisia has only one victory to its credit in World Cup play. Saudi Arabia's history is only slightly better, making it to the second round once in its three previous appearances.

To change that, Saudi Arabia brought in coach Gabriel Calderon, a two-time World Cup player for Argentina. He immediately worked on improving the team's conditioning. Yasser al-Kahtani has the speed to play at this level, it'll be up to the rest of the team to keep up.

Brazilian-born Jose Clayton and Silva dos Santos give Tunisia a taste of what the best team -- top-rated Brazil -- is and Tunisia showed it can score goals in qualifying.
