PHOENIX, June 9 (UPI) -- Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer Thursday night to help the New York Mets beat Arizona, 7-1.
Endy Chavez had two runs and three hits; Jose Valentin had one run, two hits, and one RBI; Calos Delgado had one run, one hit, and one RBI; and both David Wright and Paul Lo Duca had one run and one hit for the Mets (36-23), who won for the third time in their last four games.
In a triumphant return, winning pitcher Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez (4-5) went the distance on a three-hitter. Hernandez, who was traded to the Mets from the Diamondbacks for reliever Jorge Julio on May 24, walked two and struck out three.
Chad Tracy hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning for Arizona (34-26), which has followed a four-game winning streak with four straight losses.
In seven innings, loser Claudio Vargas (6-3) gave up five runs and eight hits.
