MLB: Colorado 5, Pittsburgh 4

DENVER, June 7 (UPI) -- Jamey Carroll had four hits and made a pair of spectacular defensive plays in helping the Colorado Rockies to a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Carroll, the Colorado second baseman, ran down a foul pop off the glove of first baseman Todd Helton in the sixth and closed Tuesday's game by leaping to catch a soft liner.

Colorado starter Jeff Francis (4-5) allowed three runs in the fifth inning but was still able to get the victory as Colorado snapped a six-game losing streak. Pittsburgh's Paul Maholm (2-5) took the loss.

The Pirates' three-run fifth opened the scoring. Jason Bay led off with his 18th home run of the season and Jose Hernandez added a two-run homer.

The Rockies got a single run in the fifth, with Garrett Atkins getting the RBI, and took the lead with a three-run sixth. Yorvit Torrealba doubled in Clint Barnes and scored on an error. Helton put Colorado ahead with an RBI-single later in the inning.
