MLB: San Diego 1, Pittsburgh 0

PITTSBURGH, June 4 (UPI) -- Chris Young hurled eight shutout innings Sunday as San Diego blanked the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-0.

Padres right-fielder Brian Giles, a former Pirate, drove in the game's only run with an RBI single in the third inning, and Mike Cameron had two hits and stole two bases as San Diego improved to 30-26 with its fourth win in five games.

Young (5-3), a 6-foot-10 inch right-hander, gave up only two hits, walked one and struck out four. Trevor Hoffman earned his 12th save.

Jason Bay and Jose Hernandez had the only hits for the Pirates (21-36), who lost for just the third time in their last 10 games.

Losing pitcher Victor Santos (3-6) yielded one run and seven hits in five innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
