DETROIT, June 1 (UPI) -- Carlos Guillen hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday night as Detroit topped the New York Yankees, 7-6.
Overall, Guillen had three hits and two RBI; Magglio Ordonez had two hits and knocked in four runs; Marcus Thames had three runs and two hits; Curtis Granderson had two runs and two hits; and Ivan Rodriguez had two runs and three hits for the Tigers (36-18), who averted a four-game sweep.
In relief, the winner was closer Fernando Rodney (4-1).
Robinson Cano had one run and four hits; Andy Phillips had three hits and two RBI; Jason Giambi hit his 14th home run; and Jorge Posada hit a three-run double in the third inning for the Yankees (31-21), who had a five-game winning streak broken.
The losing pitcher was Kyle Farnsworth (1-3).
