"When I was under pressure, I played my best tennis," said the fifth-seeded Henin-Hardenne. "I wasn't in my best day but it's good to win that way. It's in this kind of day that you have to win even if you're not playing your best tennis. As far as I'm concerned, being a favorite is not something that really worries me. Very often, favorites are created just to disappear and to be beaten."

The 10th-seeded Myskina was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Hungary's Melinda Czink.

Also winning were No. 15 Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and 19th-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and Montenegro.
