CORNING, N.Y., May 26 (UPI) -- LPGA Tour rookie Virada Nirapathpongporn has a 1-shot lead after 36 holes of the Corning Classic in Corning, N.Y.
In Friday's second round, the native of Thailand shot 5-under 67, and is 11-under 133 after two rounds.
"I'm excited, for sure," Nirapathpongporn said. "It's a place on the LPGA I haven't been, but every level of my golf career I have, at the top, I mean. Still, we're halfway, and I look forward to playing the rest of the weekend, keep playing golf."
In second place are overnight co-leader Nancy Scranton (69) and Brandie Burton (68).
"I played pretty well," said Scranton, a three-time winner on the tour. "I wasn't quite as solid early today as I was yesterday, although I was hitting a lot of greens and fairways."
Reigning Women's British Open champion Jeong Jang of Korea (69) is tied for fourth place with Vicki Goetze-Ackerman (68) at 9-under 135.
