CORNING, N.Y., May 25 (UPI) -- Nancy Scranton and Meena Lee are tied for the lead after the first round of the LPGA's Corning Classic in New York.
The pair shot 7-under 65 and leads a group of five players by one shot.
"I hit it quite well today," Scranton said. "It's funny how sometimes you have a really good day that seems so easy. I drove it quite well. I missed just two fairways and both of those led to bogeys. Other than that, I had a lot of birdie opportunities. It was just pretty easy."
At 6-under 66 are Korea's Hee-Won Han; Jeong Jang of South Korea; Americans Brandie Burton and Kristin Tamulis; and Virada Nirapathpongporn of Thailand. Jeong is the defending Women's British Open champion.
Sophie Gustafson carded a 5-under 67 and shares eighth place with Mikaela Parmlid, Marcy Hart, Liselotte Neumann and Vicki Goetze-Ackerman.
