MLB: Baltimore 14, Seattle 4

SEATTLE, May 24 (UPI) -- Ramon Hernandez hit two home runs, including a grand slam in a 9-run Baltimore ninth inning, boosting the Orioles to a 14-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Hernandez, who has eight home runs on the year, finished Tuesday's game with seven RBI to match a career best and help emergency starter John Halama (3-1) collect the win. Halama was called on after scheduled Orioles starter Hayden Penn underwent an emergency appendectomy on Monday.

Baltimore started off strong, scoring four times in the first inning to hand the loss to Joel Pineiro (4-5). Hernandez began the scoring with a 3-run home run and Nick Markakis singled in another.

The Mariners made the score 4-2 in the third on a Jose Lopez bases-loaded walk and a Raul Ibanez groundout. Corey Patterson hit a solo home run for Baltimore in the fifth and Seattle pulled within 5-4 with runs in the sixth and eighth innings.

The Orioles sent 13 batters to the plate in the ninth, however, scoring nine times with five players getting RBI and Hernandez' fourth career grand slam completing the rally.
