WNBA: San Antonio 79, Houston 63

HOUSTON, May 21 (UPI) -- Vicki Johnson scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half Sunday as the San Antonio Silver Stars beat Houston, 79-63, in the season opener for both teams.

Johnson, a nine-year WNBA veteran who left the New York Liberty as a free agent after the 2005 season, is expected to provide veteran leadership for San Antonio, which has one of the youngest teams in the league. She hit seven of 14 shots from the field Sunday and finished with four assists.

Rookie Shana Zolman scored 15 points and Sophia Young, the team's top pick in April's draft, added 13 points and 12 rebounds for San Antonio.

Sheryl Swoopes had 19 points and seven rebounds for Houston.
