WNBA: Indiana 67, Detroit 60

INDIANAPOLIS, May 20 (UPI) -- Tamika Catchings had 16 points and 14 rebounds Saturday as the Indiana Fever beat Detroit, 67-60, in the season opener for both clubs.

Anna DeForge scored 14 points while Tamika Whitmore and Ebony Hoffman each had 13 for the Fever, who reached the Eastern Conference finals last season. Hoffman also pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.

Katie Smith scored a game-high 19 points for the Shock, who lost in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last year. Cheryl Ford and Deanna Nolan each had 10 points while Ford grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Fever won despite shooting just 26.3 percent from the field. The Shock shot 36.8 percent, but were out-rebounded 42-32.
